The Photosynthesis Layer: Stop Storing. Start Converting. #64
Stop storing. Start converting. Week 64 explores moving from underground root-work to active photosynthesis—focusing on present light, clearing out the pantry, trusting the process, and turning raw experience into immediate fuel.
Roots go down. Leaves catch light. Last week was the underground work finally coming up to air. This is what happens once it does.
A leaf takes raw light and makes food. Not stores it. Makes it. That's the alchemy the whole tree is built around. You can't skip the step. Sunshine on a rock doesn't become anything.
Sixty-three weeks of lived material sitting in me. Newsletter Layers. Songs. Short video productions. Losses. Wins. Whole seasons. The question isn't whether I have material. The question is what I'm converting it into.
Present Light Only
Here's the tension I hit at 6am on Tuesdays. When I sit down, look up the topic and begin.
Looking back is easy. You dig, you excavate, you find the core. Sixty-three weeks of layers proves the mechanic works. You can turn any past moment into meaning if you sit with it long enough.
Forward is harder.
Because the light in the present moment isn't just one light. It's a hundred lights. Notifications. Feeds. Trends. LLMs telling you seventeen things at once. AI slop scrolling past every minute of every day. Overstimulation dressed up as inspiration.
Most of it isn't actual light. It's screen glare. Blue and bright, and it looks like it should feed you but it doesn't convert.
Real light is quieter. Sitting down at 6am on Tuesday for these layers is real light. I look forward to it. My son's face when he wakes up and looks over at me, smiling as he cuddles into his mother's bosom, mom smiling too, is real light. The book I've been slowly tackling for months, Atlas Shrugged, is real light. Not an easy read. Better than doom-scrolling. A conversation with a best friend in California who still makes the effort to catch up is real light. The camera I'm finally sitting in front of this Friday is real light. This time for real. I'm ready.
Photosynthesis needs a real light source. The first move forward is knowing the difference.

Already Converting
Let me name what I'm already metabolizing. Otherwise, this stays a metaphor.
There have been many weekly layers that have contributed to my life. But one that really sparked a light of awareness in me was Layer 42 on interdependence. Me finally admitting I'm not doing this alone. The analytics light up countries every week I've never set foot in. Just looking at last week's engagement, a whole new set of countries. Nigeria. Vietnam. South Africa. Morocco. Ireland. Someone in one of those places is sitting with a layer at their home or a café. Thinking, why does this feel so relatable. Or, why is this onion writing a journal. That's photosynthesis I'll never see. Doesn't matter. It happened.
My clients are slowly growing. Not because I'm hustling harder. Because I know what they need in a way I couldn't five years ago. All the reading and reflection and hard chapters I've lived became enzymes I now use on their brands. Raw experience, authentic, converted, feeding what grows above the ground.
None of it went viral. Not one thing. And it's still real conversion. Honestly, viral just means crude comments and drive-by dings that help no one. What actually matters, at least for my clients, is bringing in real clients. A leaf doesn't stop making food because the forest didn't clap.

The Pantry Question
Here's the mirror.
What are you storing instead of converting?
Maybe it's a chapter you keep behind glass because you're not ready to touch it yet. That's fine, timing is real. But maybe it's a chapter that IS ready, and you're the one holding out. Because if you convert it you can't use it as a backup anymore. You can't hold it as your reason for not going forward. Once it becomes fuel, it stops being a floor. It becomes a launchpad. And launching is scarier than sitting.
I'm asking myself this. I have to. Because the "why hasn't it hit yet" question is real, and I don't love writing about it because I can't predict the future. At this point I plan and God laughs. But seriously, underneath it is a quieter question. What am I keeping in the pantry as backup? Something I've been holding onto just in case. And what would it look like to metabolize even that and let it do its work.
I don't have the answer yet. Naming the question is the first move.
Ask yourself the same thing. Not to shame yourself. To find out what's still stored that could be feeding you today.
The Leaf Doesn't Look Back
This is how I keep it forward.
A leaf doesn't spend the afternoon thinking about the morning's light. It converts what's landing on it right now. Then the next thing. Then the next. Present light only. That's the whole practice.
For me, it looks like showing up at 6am on Tuesdays and making what wants to be made from what landed on me that week. Not curating. Not stockpiling for a bigger project. Converting today's light today. Same for the client work, the video, the camera time coming this Friday. All of it is leaf work. Small, present, chemical, unglamorous, real.
The market decides in its own time. The trees still standing in a hundred years didn't spend their leaves waiting for applause. They kept converting.
Keep converting.
Still here, leaves out, catching what lands. Same peel, present light only. Let's build from here. 🧅
Want to write through these same layers and make them your own?

The "Being Coached" Layer: Suit Up, Show Up, Trust the Process
A leaf doesn't sit around asking how photosynthesis works or demanding proof before it catches light. It has the soil, the sun, the air. So the conversion just happens. In the same way, when you suit up and show up with the right elements in place, you don't need an "aha" moment or an intellectual breakdown of how it's all going to work. The process carries itself.
Look at how business actually works. You spend the weekend at a seminar studying a specific procedure. Monday a client walks in with that exact issue, even though they booked their appointment a week before you ever learned it. How does that happen? There's a divine order that transcends your conscious understanding. The skills you're building right now are already meeting the client, the project, the breakthrough waiting for you on Monday.
The Takeaway for You: Stop burning energy trying to map out every outcome. You already have the light, the experience, and the tools. Suit up, show up, and trust that the work you're putting in today is already meeting what's waiting for you.
Bookshelf Peeled - The Rejection of Passive Stagnation
In The Immortalist, Alan Harrington delivers a fierce declaration: humanity must stop glorifying its limitations, worshiping its helplessness, and accepting slow decay as a sacred rule. He argues that people build elaborate philosophical and spiritual excuses just to cope with standing still. His demand is an immediate shift in stance, from passive acceptance to active, radical creation. You don't wait for permission or accept the "inevitable" slope or SLOP. You use every tool and ounce of energy in front of you to engineer your own expansion.
This is the exact move from stockpiling past material to active photosynthesis. Storing your lived chapters, hiding behind old excuses, or asking "why hasn't it hit yet" is just decorating your own stagnation. The only move that matters is taking today's raw light, the tools, the camera, the client work, the 6am Tuesdays, and actively converting it into growth. Stop accepting the delay. Stop keeping your best work in the pantry.
The Takeaway for You: Stop treating your current ceilings or past delays as permanent laws. Excuses and passive waiting are just comfortable ways of staying buried. Take the raw material sitting inside you, turn on the light, and start actively converting your capabilities into reality today.

Design Rebel: Charged and Ready to Rise
This week was inspired by the onion's spout receiving photosynthesis—after being hidden long enough, he was fully charged and ready to rise into the daylight.
Behind the Build: Bringing this sequence to life required far more than a single prompt. While Leonardo.ai, Veo 3.1, and ElevenLabs generated the raw assets, the real breakthrough happened in post-production. Everything was manually edited, structured, and synchronized frame-by-frame in Wondershare Filmora to protect the creative vision.
Photosynthesis doesn't store light—it converts it immediately!
This Got Me Thinking:
In honor of 8/8 passing last week & fitting right into this one: Stop storing. Start converting. You are your breakthrough. Also, when I started Nitram 8/8/2008.

P.S. If this resonates with you, share it with someone. I'm dedicated to helping fellow explorers—or anyone who found this page—uncover their authentic self with humor and insight. We're all in this together, finding the courage to truly live from our core essence (or as close as we can get!).
